the loanwords “device” and “gadget” in Russian

These two loanwords (“девайс” and “гаджет”) appeared in the Russian language in the beginning of 2000s. Possibly, the word “девайс” appeared as early as in 1990s. Their meaning is the same or almost the same as in English.

The word “девайс” means a device. It also may be used as a funny euphemism for “penis”. Though, this usage is not common and may appear in a very obvious context only.

The word “гаджет” means an electronic gadget. As far as I know, it means some electronic device, not a mechanical one.
